MERLINHEALTH WIZARD

Comparison · Function Health vs Superpower

Function Health or Superpower? What each hands you, and what to do with it.

Two tabs open, two checkout pages, $166 apart. Function Health draws your blood twice a year for $365. Superpower draws once a year for $199. Both will now take the results you already have, and both promise a read of what they find.

The useful question isn't which one is better. It's what each one hands you after the draw, and what you'll do with it once you have it.

Function Health

Function generates both the data and the read. Clinicians review every result and flag issues, every result comes with an explanation, and a clinician's full summary takes in the health history you add. Your results are tracked from one draw to the next.

Function takes uploads now too: past lab results, scans and other medical records, kept in one place beside its own. Its site doesn't say whether the clinician notes read them. You can connect your wearables, and ask questions about your results in a private chat in the app. Testing runs at least twice a year: 100+ tests at the annual visit, then 60+ more three to six months later, with any other marker on demand at a member price.

Superpower

Superpower's membership is $199 a year for one comprehensive blood test, 100+ biomarkers from a single draw, with follow-up tests you can add anytime. Its assistant, Kin, answers from your lab results, uploaded medical records and connected wearable data. Those same inputs build your protocol, and clinicians review the decisions, edge cases and changes that matter.

How to choose

They part on how often they draw and who reads the result.

  • Pick Function if you want two draws a year and clinicians reviewing every result.
  • Pick Superpower if one baseline draw a year is enough, you want an assistant that answers from your uploads and wearables, and the $166 matters.
  • Pick neither yet if you already have recent labs. Read what you hold first; the panel you buy next should answer a question your current results raised.

Both take your past results now. Before you pay, ask each one what it reads them against: one system or every system, this draw or every draw you've had.

Whichever you pick, read it with everything else

None of these platforms are either-or with Merlin: the synthesis layer reads whatever panels you already have, no matter who ran them. Use Merlin on top of Function and the clinician notes get richer in context, not replaced. Bring a Superpower draw and Merlin reads it against everything before it.

Merlin reads across any panel from any source - your last physician's blood work, a raw genome file read variant by variant, the imaging report from last year, a gut panel from elsewhere - the way a functional and integrative medicine specialist would. Then it starts you where it matters most and guides each change.

Questions

Is Function Health worth it?

At $365 a year, it buys comprehensive panels twice a year, clinicians reviewing every result, a clinician's summary, and your results tracked across draws. It's worth it if that's the read you want.

Is Function Health legit?

Yes. It runs the panels and writes the read: clinicians review every result, a clinician's summary takes in your health history, and your results are tracked across draws.

Is Superpower worth it?

At $199 a year, it buys one comprehensive blood test, follow-up tests you can add, and an assistant that answers from your labs, uploads and wearables. It's worth it if one baseline draw a year is the cadence you want.

Should I use both?

The draws are similar, so two subscriptions mostly buy the same blood twice. Pick one, and keep every result you already have.

What do I do with the results?

Read each marker against two ranges, beside the markers that check it, and across every draw you have. Here's how to read your blood test results.

Do I need either one to use Merlin?

No. Merlin reads whatever you already have, and you can order a panel inside it if you need one. No results yet? Bring labs from anywhere, order our $180 baseline panel inside Merlin, or start with the questions, free.

Bring what you have, wherever it came from - PDFs, portal downloads, a photo of a printout. Your first month reads your results together, across every system, and starts you where it matters most. If there's a lot, Merlin tells you what order to bring it in.
